The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS)will hold a Seminar on “Global Uncertainty: Regional Headwinds and the Philippines' Economic Promise” on February 9, 2016, Thursday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the PIDS Conference Room, 18th Floor, Three Cyberpod Centris - North Tower, EDSA corner Quezon Avenue, Quezon City.

With global economic integration at a standstill, the world economy is coping with diminished growth prospects. In the US, the Trump administration is set to introduce new protectionism amid Fed's rate hikes. Europe is coping with euro-skeptical surge, and Japan with its monetary gamble. China is rebalancing amid growth deceleration, Russia is still coping with sanctions, Brazil with a soft coup, and India with slowing reforms.

Despite strong fundamentals, the Philippines is not immune to global economic headwinds. Moreover, the Duterte administration must balance between conflicting US and Chinese objectives in the region. Can the Philippines still deliver its economic promise, as a large emerging economy?

Addressing these issues is the seminar's resource speaker, Dr. Dan Steinbock, founder and CEO of Difference Group (www.differencegroup.net). He is also the research director of International Business at India China and America Institute, and a visiting fellow at Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) in China and EU Center in Singapore. As a senior Fulbright scholar, he is affiliated with Stern/NYU and Columbia Graduate School of Business and has cooperated with Harvard Business School. He has advised/consulted for the OECD, the European Commission, the Nordic Council and European government agencies, multinationals and SMEs, financial institutions, competitiveness and innovation organizations, among others.
