During the discussion/debate in Congress on RCEP, the Chairperson of the Senate International Relations Committee asked about the impact of existing trade agreements to the Philippine economy. While there have been studies (Barral and Quimba on JPEPA; Quimba et al. (2020); Hayakawa et al. (2021)) that have analyzed the impact of specific FTAs at the macrolevel, there is no study looking at the impact on firms. The study is expected to provide an assessment of impact of FTAs to firms through their international transactions (imports and exports). Such an assessment fills a gap as assessments of FTA has only been conducted at the macro level. An understanding of the impact of FTAs can strengthen the decisiveness of the Senate international relations committee in giving concurrence to international trade agreements into which the country enters.
