A PIDS paper stressed that the Philippines needs to do several things to capture the opportunities from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIRe). Among them are increasing its openness to international trade and investment, reducing anticompetitive practices especially in the ICT sector, investing in education and training, having a more flexible and less costly labor market regulatory environment, and having a social protection system that is adaptive to unprecedented business and employment disruptions.
