Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on Filipino migrant workers.

A PIDS study that looked into the access to social protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) found that the most common benefits they received in their first migration experience were immediate on-site needs such as lodging benefits and food allowance. However, basic worker benefits like health insurance, overtime pay, paid sick leave, and work accident compensation were less common. In 2018, only 53 percent of OFWs had health insurance and medical allowance, while only 50 percent received payment for overtime work in their first overseas job. The lack of health insurance was found mostly among migrant workers with lower levels of education.
