40 Things (You Just Might Not Know) About PIDS (25/40): PIDS and PAFTAD

In 2002, PIDS hosted the 28th Pacific Trade and Development (PAFTAD) conference as part of its 25th anniversary celebration. With the theme, "Competition Policy in the New Millennium", the conference was attended by representatives from 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. This was the second time that PIDS hosted the PAFTAD conference. It first sponsored the conference (13th PAFTAD conference) in 1983 with the theme, “Energy and Structural Change in the Asia-Pacific Region”.

PAFTAD is one of the earlier, if not the earliest, forums related to regional economic integration. Started in 1968, it promotes policy-oriented academic research and discussion on Asia-Pacific economic issues.
