Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on the issues faced by creative and multimedia online workers
A PIDS study that explored the policy environment shaping online work revealed that 47 percent of Filipino online workers are engaged in creative and multimedia tasks. It also found that workers in the creative industry experienced the same issues facing platform workers, such as unstable work arrangement and lack of social protection due to the uncertain nature of their work. Apart from their right to just compensation, their work conditions also need to be ensured. Some of the proposed laws for creative artists include the Creative Industries Charter of 2019, Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, Eddie Garcia Act, and the Online Pinoy Creative Market Act.
