To familiarize everyone with key socioeconomic terms and concepts, we have this new social media series.

For this week, our buzzword is “agrarian reform”.

It refers to the redistribution of land to landless farmers and regular farmworkers, including other alternative arrangements such as production or profit-sharing and distribution of shares of stocks.

As a program, it includes a comprehensive range of support aimed at improving the economic well-being of the farmer-beneficiaries.

A PIDS study found that households with individual certificate of land ownership award (CLOA) get higher earnings from their land than those under collective CLOAs. Consistent with other studies, it shows that individual land ownership has a positive impact on farmers’ decisionmaking and their farming outcomes.
