Considering the ongoing prevalence of high under-5 stunting rates in the Philippines, it is crucial to examine the country’s past investments in nutrition interventions to guide future resource allocation priorities.

This infographic shows the level of public spending among 19 national government agencies for nutrition in the Philippines from 2017–2019. The data show that expenditures on nutrition lacked coherence, as they did not sufficiently consider the interconnected risk factors contributing to childhood stunting.

To improve the coherence of public expenditures for nutrition, it is recommended to increase funding for enabling interventions, prioritize investments in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, and conduct further research to understand how best to deliver interventions at home.
