The 91-day Treasury bill rate for the month of August was 5.225 percent, the lowest since January of 2003.

The Peso-Dollar exchange rate has averaged at PhP54.991/US$1 for the month of August, higher than July`s 53.714.

The total external debt reported by the BSP now reaches US$55.8 Billion. The country`s external debt grew by almost US$2 billion during the first quarter of this year. This growth is high compared to the previous years. From 2001 to 2002, the total external debt went up by only US$1.5 Billion.

Composite Index closes at 1,192.83 for the month of August. This is lower compared to July`s 1,240.42.

Average Monthly Crime Rate for the month of July 2003 rose to 8.69 per 100,000 population from 8.32 in June.
