Homegrown hotel chain Astoria Hotels & Resorts (AHR) invested P50 million in the intensive renovation and design enhancements of its Astoria Boracay resort, bringing its total investment in the project to P500 million.

This developed months after the reopening in October of Boracay, which was shut down in April last year for rehabilitation.

Since its soft opening in January, Astoria Boracay said it had been very well-received by its guests. It said the hotel earned the 12th spot in the most-coveted TripAdvisor 2019 Traveler’s Choice Awards for Top Hotels in the Philippines, while its sister resort, Astoria Current in Station 3, reigned victorious at No. 1.

“We are proud of the high level of service that Astoria Boracay and Astoria Current have extended to our guests, as attested by the two properties’ high TripAdvisor rankings. This will only push us even harder to work toward making every guest’s stay on Boracay island quite memorable,” said AHR president Jeffrey Ng.

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) estimated that economic loss during the shutdown of Boracay hit P83.15 billion, while the loss in compensation could have reached P27.9 billion.
