The DOH-PIDS Health Systems Research Program was crafted to improve the capacity of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) to formulate, implement, and monitor health policies supportive of the administration’s Aquino Health Agenda (AHA) as articulated in the Universal Health Care (UHC)– Kalusugan Pangkalahatan (KP) launched in 2011.

The Health Research component of the program seeks to provide evidence-based findings needed to steer the health system, to monitor existing health policies and programs, and to inform future policies and programs that the DOH and PHIC should consider. For this program, 28 studies have been implemented covering topics on health financing, attainment of MDGs, public-private partnerships on health, and health service delivery.

In connection with this, the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in partnership with the DOH and the PHIC, is conducting a series of knowledge-sharing seminars from February to April aimed at disseminating 26 studies produced under the project. The specific dates are February 13, 27; March 13; April 8 and 24.

The first Knowledge-Sharing Seminar will be held on February 13 from 1:30 pm (registration at 1:00 pm) to 4:30 pm at the Romulo Hall, NEDA sa Makati Building, 106 Amorso St., Legaspi Village, Makati City. This seminar will have paper presentations on “The Impact of the Cheaper Medicines Act (CMA) on Households in Metro Manila: A Qualitative Study”; “The Prevalence of Philippine Prescribing, Dispensing, and Use Behavior in Relation to Generic Drugs and their Risk Factors”; and “Tuberculosis and Diabetes Mellitus Control and Care: A Rapid Situational Analysis for Planning a Coordinated Program Response”.
