The 10th Annual Public Policy Conference (APPC) will be held on September 19, 2024, from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. at Makati Shangri-La and via Zoom.

The APPC is the highlight of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM), led by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) with the support of its partners and sponsors. The conference aims to convene policy experts and researchers to analyze critical issues relevant to development planning and policymaking.

This year’s theme is “Navigating Global Megatrends: Opportunities, Strategies, and Governance for Expanding the Middle Class”. Discussions will highlight the opportunities and challenges in expanding the Filipino middle class in the face of emerging global megatrends, which could either accelerate growth or widen disparities. Distinguished foreign and local scholars, government officials, and experts from international organizations and the private sector will be in attendance.

The conference will begin with a hybrid plenary featuring key lecturers who will discuss the overall theme. Four breakout sessions will be held exclusively for onsite participants in the afternoon.

The first session, “Natural Resource Use, Climate Transition, and Social Justice”, will focus on strategies to achieve inclusive growth through natural resource management, renewable energy, and climate financing.

The second session, “New Opportunities and Old Challenges in Manufacturing, Agriculture, and Services and Trade” will emphasize the role of digitalization and modernization in driving growth across these sectors.

The third session, “Ensuring a Future-ready Work Force and Protecting Workers’ Wellbeing amidst Technological Change”, will explore necessary investments in quality education, skills development, and labor management to prepare for future challenges.

The fourth session, “Harnessing Data, Digital Currencies, and Innovation in Public Systems”, will explore the technologies and policies governments may adopt to enhance access to information and public participation in development.

The conference will conclude with a closing plenary session featuring representatives from various government agencies.

Interested participants can register to join onsite or online at https://bit.ly/APPC2024reg. Due to limited venue capacity, APPC slots will be allocated on a first-register, first-served basis, with the team manually approving onsite participation. Please note that online participation via Zoom is available only for the morning plenary session, as the afternoon breakout sessions will be exclusively onsite.
