The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in partnership with the Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), will hold a public webinar on July 27, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM via Zoom.
The event features two studies. The first study, “Basic Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic: What Do Enrollment by Learning Modality and Household Characteristics Tell Us?”, assessed the delivery of education in the Philippines during the pandemic using enrolment and household data. It found that most public school students lack internet access, making online learning challenging. The study identified potential areas for intervention to address the learning disparities. It will be presented by Dr. Aniceto Orbeta Jr., president of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and study author.
The second study features mEducation, which analyzed the use of mobile phone-based instruction to over 3,400 households with children in grades 3 and 4 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to improve learning outcomes. It was conducted by the Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), Youth Impact, and the Department of Education from 2021 to 2022. It will be presented by Dr. Noam Angrist, study coauthor and Youth Impact cofounder.
