Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on the Philippines' health spending relative to its ASEAN neighbors.

A PIDS study noted that the Philippines’ spending on health was one of the lowest in the ASEAN region based on World Bank data. In 2018, it was USD 46 per capita. In contrast, Thailand and Malaysia spent on health four times more than the Philippines at USD 188 and USD 194 per capita, respectively. The country’s public spending on health was only about 1.5 percent of its gross domestic product, significantly lower than Thailand, Viet Nam, Singapore, and Malaysia.
