A PIDS study found that women occupy merely 26 percent of the agricultural employment in the country. They also tend to be involved in weeding and harvesting jobs, which are known to be less profitable than men's traditional jobs in agriculture, such as plowing. The study recommends the promotion of social enterprises in rural and agricultural areas to provide livelihoods and income-generating opportunities for women and other marginalized groups in poor communities.
