State think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) hosted the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) as part of its annual consultation visit to the Philippines.
AMRO was represented by its Group Head and Lead Economist Seung Hyun Hong, Director Kouqing Li, Economist Ke Ji, and Associate Economist Dek Joe Sum. They were welcomed by PIDS President Aniceto Orbeta Jr., Senior Research Fellows Ma. Christina F. Epetia, Maria Margarita D. Gonzales, and Michael Ralph M. Abrigo, and Research Program Management Division Chief Christine Ruth Salazar.
PIDS and AMRO discussed critical issues for enhancing social protection in the Philippines, such as policy formulation and design, budget allocation, and policy assessment. They also spoke about the interdependence of the fiscal management system.
Dr. Li proposed collaboration opportunities between AMRO and PIDS, such as pursuing membership in the AMRO-led ASEAN+3 Finance Think-Tank Network (AFTN) network.
Dr. Orbeta expressed his appreciation of AMRO’s and PIDS’s shared commitment to strengthening social protection policies in the Philippines and nurturing research collaboration within the ASEAN+3 region.
He added that the anticipated collaboration with AMRO can foster economic development in the Philippines and the region.
