The availability of clean potable water in the Philippines is decreasing because of water pollution, according to the observations made by Dr. Danilo Israel of the state think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS). Israel, also a PIDS senior research fellow, said that his review imputes poor management of freshwater water resources, particularly in the area of water pollution. He added that while the country is rich in freshwater, only 39 percent of classified inland surface water bodies are potential water sources for domestic use.
