Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #PIDSFactFriday for the week on the social pension for indigent senior citizens.

A PIDS paper underscored that providing the indigent elderly with a monthly allowance is a good response to improve the plight of seniors among the poor and vulnerable. As of 2020, the contributory schemes of the Social Security System and Government Service Insurance System have covered 25.2 percent of senior citizens. An additional 37.9 percent of the elderly have been covered by the Social Pension (SocPen) for Indigent Senior Citizens program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
