40 Things (You Just Might Not Know) About PIDS (17/40): Catching Up with Asia's Tigers
In 1996, PIDS released the two-volume publication, Catching Up with Asia's Tigers. This book assessed the industrial sector’s performance and provided recommendations on how the country could seize the many doors of opportunities available to push its industries to achieve world-class competitiveness and be at par with Asia’s tigers. It came at a most opportune time when the global community was faced with excellent opportunities for a freer world trade ushered by the creation of the World Trade Organization following the GATT-Uruguay Round Negotiations and of regional initiatives like the ASEAN Free Trade Area.
