Recent development in the financial sector has paved the way to channel funds from borrowers to savers. This article provides an overview of the responses of rural credit markets in Southeast Asia to the new orientation of rural credit policy. It argues that the new policy environment to innovate has stimulated rural economic agents. Financial innovation in the rural sector is equally promising.
