Media has acquired a major role in the social and political change. In this issue, Mr. Armando Doronilla provides an interesting analysis of the various roles media played in the recent history and how it has been able to regain its reputation as a credible institution in the Philippine society. He notes however, that despite the new freedom, media’s perspectives remain limited due to the fact that emphasis has been made on making the existing system work better rather than on instituting change. In addition, the directions media can take have been restricted by the ownership of the various forms of media.
