Unfair trade practices (UTPs) are practices of businesses or firms that are deceitful, misleading, and uncompetitive, and therefore prohibited by law. They adversely affect consumer welfare and reduce the profitability of businesses. UTPs cover a wide spectrum of activities. This Policy Note looks deeper into these practices and exposes their risks to vulnerable sectors. It also offers recommendations to protect local producers from these practices and to assist vulnerable sectors.
