MANILA, Philippines – Lumabas sa Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) na mas marami ang Pinay na online sellers, pero mas malaki ang kinikita ng mga lalaking online sellers.

Sa isinagawang ‘Expanded Data Analysis and Policy Research for National ICT Household Survey 2019,” mas lamang ng 5% sa bilang ang mga babaeng online seller kaysa sa mga lalaki.

Nakita rin sa nasabing pag-aaral na mas malaki ang kinikinata ng mga lalaking online seller na umaabot sa average na P10,898 laban sa  P6,041 sa mga kababaihan.

Pero iginiit naman ng mga researcher na kinakailangan pa ng mas maraming datos ukol dito para malaman ang distansya ng kita depende sa kasarian.

“We conducted some basic econometric modeling and observed that engagement in online selling is more likely for women, married individuals, and more educated persons,” ani PIDS Senior Research Fellow Jose Ramon Albert, isa sa may akda ng pag-aaral.

“As a person grows older, there is a greater chance of engaging in online selling, but this reverses among older people,” dagdag pa niya.

Kabilang sina Senior Research Fellow Francis Mark Quimba, Research Fellow Aubrey D. Tabuga, Consultant Mary Grace Mirandilla-Santos, former Supervising Research Specialist Maureen Ane D. Rosellon, Research Specialist Jana Flor V. Vizmanos, Research Analyst Mika S. Muñoz, at dating Research Analyst Carlos C. Cabaero bilang awtor ng pag-aaral.

Dagdag pa ni Albert na ang mga Pinoy na nakitara sa rural area ay malimit na nag-o-online sell, habang ang mga walang trabaho, self-employed, estudyante ay madalas na nag-o-online selling kumpara sa mga may trabaho.

“Homemakers are less likely to engage in online selling compared to employed workers,” ani Albert.

“The country needs to regularly measure and monitor digital skills — both life skills and competencies for work,” saad pa sa pag-aara bilang mensahe naman sa gobyerno.

“Training the older population and less educated concerning the practical applications of ICT, as well as enhancing the general population’s knowledge and usage of online platforms in conducting online transactions, will equitably improve the population’s ability to benefit from ICT,” dagdag pa sa resulta ng pananaliksik.
