The Philippine health care system has long been confronting challenges of affordability, access, and availability of health care services. Despite efforts to address these, many Filipinos, especially the poor, still do not feel the benefits of programs and health services provided by different sectors. Health markets are part of the health care systems that operate to support the efforts of the government to deliver health service to the public. Health market innovations (HMIs) are programs and policies implement by governments, nongovernment organizations, private institutions, and social entrepreneurs. Leading in the promotion of HMIs is the Center for Health Market Innovations (CHMI), a regional network of HMI partners.
State think-tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) had been tapped by CHMI as the Philippines Regional Innovation Broker to identify several innovative health programs from different regions in the Philippines.
As a continuation of its dissemination activities to share and promote best practices in health service delivery and financing, PIDS has proudly partnered with Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan (XU) and CHMI in holding a Regional Roundtable Discussion (RTD) on Health Market Innovations on March 6, 2014, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City.
