Represented by a key economic counselor from the Australian Treasury, the Australian Embassy in Manila arranged a meeting with the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) to discuss updates on the Philippine macroeconomic trends, economic outlook and emerging risks, and prospects for reform under the Duterte administration. The Treasury is the Australian government’s department in charge of monitoring and assessing economic conditions and prospects—both in Australia and overseas. The department also provides advice on the formulation and implementation of effective macroeconomic policy (e.g., monetary and fiscal policy) and labor market issues.
The meeting was held on March 30, 2016, at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf branch in Eton Centris, Quezon City. Joining PIDS Senior Research Fellows Dr. Erlinda Medalla and Dr. Sonny Domingo are Mr. Shaun Anthony, minister counselor and senior representative for South East Asia of the Australian Treasury; Mr. Andrew Hodges, first secretary of the Economic Section of the Australian Embassy; and Ms. Elaine Valte-De Jesus, project officer at the Australian Embassy.
