Looking at the health and social security systems literacy of overseas Filipino workers in East Asia, this Policy Note finds that they are only familiar with and partially understand the basic social and health security schemes in their home and destination countries. This points to the need for the government, migrant networks, informal channels, and the media to work together to promote health and social security systems literacy. Moreover, the government should establish greater portability mechanisms for its health and social protection programs while actively pursuing bilateral agreements with destination countries to make the health and social security systems more inclusive.
