The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will hold a Pulong Saliksikan on "Navigating in uncharted waters: advanced and emerging economies after the U.S. Fed’s tapering" on 18 February January 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Romulo Hall, Ground Floor of the NEDA sa Makati Bldg., 106 Amorsolo St., Legaspi Village, Makati City.

The presenter is Dr. Dan Steinbock, a recognized expert on international business, international relations, investment and risk among the major advanced economies (G7) and large emerging economies (BRICS and beyond). He monitors more than 40 major advanced and emerging economies worldwide, including the Philippines. For more information, please see www.differencegroup.net

Dr Steinbock`s presentation will focus on the new global prospects as the U.S. Fed’s tapering will intensify in the coming months, a sign of the reversal of economic policies that guided the world economy during the past half a decade. What will be the impact on the debt crises in the major advanced economies of the United States, Europe and Japan? How will the tapering and eventual interest rate hikes impact the large emerging economies, China and emerging Asia? Does the recent turmoil in the emerging markets herald the end or the resilience of their medium-term growth potential? What kind of strategic implications will these economic policies have globally and in Asia? These are the questions and issues that Dr. Steinbock will address in his presentation.
