On November 6, 2024, the Philippine APEC Study Center Network (PASCN) of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in collaboration with Silliman University, hosted a hybrid symposium at Silliman University in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, and online via Zoom. The event explored how the Visayas region can lead in adopting APEC’s 2024 Circular Economy agenda, focusing on sustainable practices in tourism, agriculture, and local economies.
The symposium featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, President of Silliman University and insightful presentations from experts: Mr. Jovito Jose P. Katigbak of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas discussed circular economy practices in women-led MSMEs, Dr. Eylla Laire M. Gutierrez of Asian Institute of Management provided a national perspective on circular economy, and Dr. Enrique G. Oracion of Silliman University shared research on zero-waste initiatives in sari-sari stores.
