#PIDSGetsMoBa: Tamang solid waste management para sa kapakanan ng kapaligiran at taumbayan (Proper solid waste management for the environment and people’s well-being)

In this #PIDSGetsMoBa video, we discuss the current state of solid waste management in the Philippines, more than 20 years since Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000) was enacted into law. In this regard, the video highlights the composition and sources of waste produced in the country and the progress in closing down dumpsites in favor of sanitary landfills. The same study encourages a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach in tackling waste management challenges by intensifying the collaboration of national government agencies, local government units, the private sector, and local communities. It also recommends strengthening capacity building and information, education, and communication campaigns, especially at the community level.

#PIDSGetsMoBa is a video series that features pressing socioeconomic problems and policy recommendations from PIDS studies to address them.

This video is based on PIDS Discussion Paper Series 2021-02 (An Analysis of Regulatory Policies on Solid Waste Management in the Philippines: Ways Forward) authored by PIDS Senior Research Fellow Sonny Domingo and Research Specialist Arvie Joy Manejar.
