Due to the advancements in publishing-related technologies and the thriving culture among researchers to make their works freely available online, the demand for open access rapidly grows. A publication is open access if it is digital, online, free of charge, and free of most reuse restrictions. While it benefits a number of stakeholders from the academe, government agencies, and research institutions, the acceptability of open access as a means to share knowledge in a freer environment is still generally a long shot. Changing the mindset of these key stakeholders toward open access helps foster a level playing field where one can access important information when needed. In return, this elevates the quality and quantity of research that can potentially improve people's lives.
