The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will formally launch its Health Economics and Finance Program (HEFP) on March 20, 2025 (Thursday), from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Makati Diamond Residences.
Following the enactment of Republic Act 11975, also known as the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act, in 2023, the HEFP is dedicated to conducting innovative, data-driven policy research to support the Department of Health (DOH) and PhilHealth in implementing the UHC Act. The program focuses on healthcare costing and economic studies aimed at reforming PhilHealth’s reimbursement system, particularly the transition to Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRG), as mandated by the UHC Act. By leveraging PIDS’ extensive expertise in health and public policy, the HEFP will utilize granular health and financial data from local governments and healthcare facilities to address critical challenges in health financing.
This launch marks a significant step toward strengthening the country’s health financing system, ensuring that every Filipino can access quality health services without financial hardship.
