Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #FactFriday for the week on ARBOs.

A PIDS study noted that most agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBOs) in the country are organizationally weak, even those registered as cooperatives. This has discouraged small farmers from joining farmer organizations and has also stifled their participation in higher value chain. Based on a tool developed by the Department of Agrarian Reform, only 10 percent of ARBOs belong to the high maturity level. Forty-six percent have low organizational maturity, and the rest have mid-level maturity. The study stressed that capacity-building programs should motivate farmer-members to commit to their organization through equity participation and urge them to establish enterprises that generate income for members.
