Hello, PIDS friends! Here's our #FactFriday for the week on the country's inability to reach the target vaccination coverage.

A PIDS study found that although the mortality and morbidity from vaccine-preventable diseases have declined over the years, the Philippines has never reached the target basic vaccination coverage of 95 percent of children. Large fluctuations characterized the national immunization coverage in the past 30 years. It hovered at 70 to 80 percent, lower than the immunization coverage in most low-income countries. The sharpest decline was recorded during the last decade. In 2014, the immunization coverage was only 65 percent, the lowest level since the early 1990s. Many children, albeit vaccinated, also had untimely immunization.
