Skyrocketing healthcare costs are making treatment for non-communicable diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and chronic illnesses, more challenging to afford in the Philippines. As these diseases rise due to aging and lifestyle shifts, the government must boost public health spending and strengthen primary and integrated care to protect Filipinos.

To drive evidence-based reforms, PIDS, Department of Health (Philippines), and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation launched the Health Economics and Finance Program (HEFP)—a policy research initiative to strengthen healthcare financing to ensure affordable, quality care for all. HEFP prioritizes three short- and medium-term research areas: financing, governance, and delivery.
